Texas finally

Well, we spent the day on the road yesterday (Monday) and it was quite an adventure. It was storming when we left Birmingham.
Lori was nice and said we could stay as long as we needed to stay if we wanted to wait it out, but I really wanted to get on the road. We left around 8:30 a.m.
It was a long drive and there were times when I couldn't even see out the front window due to the rain, but we managed.
As we all know, I am not a fan of thunder and lightening, but it really wasn't as bad as it could have been.
We got into Mississippi in about an hour and a half, and we went over the great and mighty MISSISSIPPI RIVER. I sang "Old Man River" in my head and told the kids the story of how Mommy and Daddy went over it when we were moving to the east coast from California.
Louisiana was next, and pretty uneventful, except for the rain. We could definitely feel the temperature change when we got out for gas. It is a little steamier here than Alabama, but as stated before, after leaving NH and 63 degrees, I welcome a little sweat.
We got to Texas around 3-ish, and I like two things very much about it so far.
A. Everyone here drives a big fat truck, made by AMERICANS! :)
2. I think I drive fast, but I always make sure that there is someone going a little faster than me, but people in Texas drive even faster in their big trucks! I was reminded of NJ, where I was driving 85 and people were all over my ass!
The kids went swimming almost immediately after arriving, but not before I MADE them clean out the car. They totally trashed it, but it is now cleaned out. They cried and fought, because they were so hot, and sweat was dripping down them, but TOO BAD! Don't trash my car then! :)
Time to try to get on the road to Austin.
I can't wait to get to stop and NOT have to get back in the car for a few days. :) I am beat!

Missing Daddy very much now.

  1. Don't forget your chewing tobacco and gun rack for your drive.
I'm sure those NH license plates won't go over too well in some of the small towns you'll be going through.
But if you get out and spit a bunch of tobacco juice - you'll fit right in.

Are you saying it isn't just your sister that drives like a maniac? It's all Texas drivers?

  2. BTW - the weather has been glorious here in NH. 78 and sunny most of the time.

I mowed the backyard last night and found another one of Toby's little friends that "don't move no more". Little mouse.
